Tips on Cleaning a Sous Vide

how to clean a sous vide

You have a sous vide in your kitchen? That’s awesome! Did you know that you should clean a sous vide regularly that way it always gives you the most accurate temperature? No? Well you are in luck!

Sous vide’s are such a great cooking tool and are easy to maintain. There’s just a few components that usually make up a sous vide, but it is necessary to clean them regularly.

This is why it is good to know how to give your sous vide gadget some extra connection.

Every once in awhile a sous vide could potentially get mineral build up from excess loose ends from the sous vide bags.

This could prevent the sous vide from operating at its full potential.

In this post we will teach you how to clean a sous vide.

How to clean the sous vide

Before you begin to clean your device, make sure it is turned off and fully unplugged from the outlet.

After each use of a sous vide, make sure to wipe it down with a soft cloth. Doing so will allow you to not have to worry about deep cleaning your instrument more regularly.

Make sure you also seal your vacuum bags properly that way there is no additional build up on your sous vide.

Deep Cleaning

Many households have hard water that’s filled with minerals. These minerals can cause plumbing to back up over time. If you need to descale your sous vide follow these steps below:

1. Make a quick water and vinegar solution with equal parts of both and put the mixture into a pot.

2. Put the circulator into the pot and turn it to 140 degrees Fahrenheit.

3. Rinse the circulator off after the water and vinegar solution has time to soak through.

Vacuum Sealers

If you use a vacuum sealer, you should be cleaning it on a regular basis as well. Should the vacuum sealer not be cleaned, there could be bacteria build up that makes it way onto the food.

Wipe its external surface by using a damp cloth and soap. Clean the hose by plunging it in soapy water. Let it dry before attaching it back to the vacuum sealer.

You will also need to remove the vacuum sealer’s drip tray and wipe it down with antibacterial detergent. Make sure the drip tray is fully dry before putting it back into the sealer. Otherwise, it could potentially cause harm when it’s turned back on.

Ideally, a simple wipe done will be sufficient enough after each use with damp paper towels.

A deeper clean, however, can be done less regularly. Just make sure there are no excess mineral or calcium build ups. However, if there were any kind of contaminations during a cooking process one night, you should definitely give the sous vide a deep clean.

Final thoughts

Always follow your sous vide manufacturer’s instructions on cleaning their device if they have a specific of doing so. Also, use vinegar baths to make sure your circulator works for as long as intended.
